ISLAMABADcrashbandicootonnintendoswitch, July 3 (Xinhua) -- A vigorous monsoon activity is predicted in upper and central parts of Pakistan for this week and torrential rainfall in upper parts may have devastating effects on daily routines, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) saidcrashbandicootonnintendoswitch.

The PMD said in a report this week that strong monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal are likely to penetrate the upper parts of Pakistan from Wednesday.

Torrential rains may cause flash floods in the northern areas, the PMD said, adding that urban flooding in parts of eastern Punjab province is also expected from July 4 to 7.

Landslides may disrupt roads at vulnerable points of hilly areas of northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and other northern areas, while heavy downpours, windstorms, and lightning may cause the collapse of weak houses, electric poles, billboards, vehicles and solar panels during the period.

All concerned authorities have been advised to remain "alert" and take necessary measures to avoid any untoward situation, according to the PMD.■
